The History Of Ukraine

by Paul Kubicek, The History Of Ukraine Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The History Of Ukraine books, Ukraine's struggle for a national identity plagued this former Soviet Union state long before the Cold War shook the world. Its central location between Eastern Europe and Western Asia invited many different cultures to settle the land, ultimately populating a powerful early medieval society known as Kievan Rus. However, readers will learn how Kievan Rus's Golden Age quickly crumbled with decades of Mongol invasions, Polish-Lithuanian occupation, and Russian empirical ruling. Explore how Ukraine flirted with independence in the early 20th century, only to be quickly taken over by harsh Soviet rule in 1922. Despite its independence from the USSR in 1991, devastating consequences of the socialist rule have allowed the world to witness Ukraine's ceaseless efforts to attain a stable government, struggling through the poisoning of Viktor Yushchenko, rigged elections, and the Orange Revolution. Kubicek's survey is comprehensive and concise-a perfect resource for high school students and undergrads, as well as general readers looking to further their knowledge of this up-and-coming nation.

by Orest Subtelny, Ukraine Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Ukraine books, In 1988, the first edition of Orest Subtelny's Ukraine was published to international acclaim, as the definitive history of what was at that time a republic in the USSR. In the years since, the world has seen the dismantling of the Soviet bloc and the restoration of Ukraine's independence - an event celebrated by Ukrainians around the world but which also heralded a time of tumultuous change for those in the homeland. While previous updates brought readers up to the year 2000, this new fourth edition includes an overview of Ukraine's most recent history, focusing on the dramatic political, socio-economic, and cultural changes that occurred during the Kuchma and Yushchenko presidencies. It analyzes political developments - particularly the so-called Orange Revolution - and the institutional growth of the new state. Subtelny examines Ukraine's entry into the era of globalization, looking at social and economic transformations, regional, ideological, and linguistic tensions, and describes the myriad challenges currently facing Ukrainian state and society.

History Of Ukraine Rus

by Mykhailo Hrushevsky, History Of Ukraine Rus Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download History Of Ukraine Rus books, Volume 2 is the central volume of the first cycle of the History of Ukraine-Rus'—a cycle in which Mykhailo Hrushevsky explores, chiefly, the history of the Ukrainian lands during the medieval period, until the dissolution of the Rus' state on western Ukrainian territories in the fourteenth century. This middle volume of the cycle describes the crucial Kyiv-centered period of the evolution of the medieval Rus' polity. During that period—in particular, in the eleventh and twelfth centuries—the Kyivan princely and military retinue system reached the height of its development. Kyiv controlled vast territories in eastern Europe; the political activities and influence of Rus' princes were at their peak; and Old Rus' culture, art, and literature flourished. However, as Hrushevsky demonstrates, the underlying structure of the Kyivan state was progressively losing strength and falling into decline. He points to two major trends in this process. The first was the detachment of individual lands and the weakening of relations between them. And the second was the decline of the main political center—Kyiv. The political system of Rus' became greatly weakened by internecine princely conflicts and by warfare with nomadic invaders from the steppe. In the end, under the onslaught of the most powerful of such nomadic hordes—the Tatar-Mongol army—Kyiv fell in the 1240s and its role as a political center of the Old Rus' state came to an end.

Mesopotamien

by Serhij Zhadan, Mesopotamien Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format.
